A Sketch a Day

346: Dior

346

I wonder what John Galliano thinks when he sees the Dior collections. Raf Simons’ vision of couture is a far cry from the New Look geishas and future-past pirates of the former’s heydey at Dior. A tiny part of me misses the spectacle of the crazy gowns, but that’s ok; it’s a small price to pay to not have to watch Galliano and his moustache gallop onto stage on a gilded horse or be birthed from a giant flower at the end of every show.

Today’s bride is modern with a side of sci-fi from Simons’ Look 33. Tissue paper did the trick in translating the not-quite transparency of the bodice and sleeves.

I do have to wonder if all the little old ladies at Maison Lesage are just twiddling their thumbs- all the embroidery on the entire runway at Fall 2014 could fit onto a single bodice from Galliano’s tenure.
